iOS development news and information for the community, by the community

Welcome to Your New .biz

Welcome to 148Apps.biz, our new blog focused on the business side of iPhone applications. Our goal on this site is to cover everything related to development, marketing, public relations, finance, and customer support side of iPhone Applications. Essentially business development info for people involved in the app business.

With the release of the iPhone developer program a little over a year ago, Apple gave everyone willing to pay a $99 fee unprecedented tools, information, and access to publishing commercial applications for a major mobile phone platform. Never before had just about anyone had access to selling applications to mobile phone consumers so easily.

But, what many people ignore is that even though Apple gives you the tools to create, publish, and sell your applications, they don’t give you what you need to make it a commercial software business. We want to help people in the industry with that. What we want to do is open up this blog to the community to allow people with experience in all areas of the iPhone software business a place to share their knowledge for the betterment of our industry as a whole.

The main focus of the site will be the publication of articles, written by people in the community, for the purpose of knowledge sharing in some area of the iPhone app store business. This can be an article detailing a particular coding technique, marketing experiences, pricing information, post-mortem reports on application releases, finance reconciliation information, promotional ideas, tricks, tips, and reports of just about any kind.

We’re looking for anyone in the industry to submit ideas for articles that they want to share — think of it as a very open request for papers. For more information on that, see our Submit An Article page.

In addition to the articles, we’re going to try to add some information that industry people will find useful. To start off with, we have a couple of features to launch. These include our News Clippings and App Store Metrics pages.

News Clippings is a hand gathered list of articles published elsewhere that our editors and contributors think will be useful to the community. These are articles from a wide variety of sources, updated regularly. The list is available on the News Clippings Page and as an RSS feed. We’re also open to suggestions for this page from anyone with a Delicious or Twitter account — just see the News Clippings page for more info.

picture-15Our App Store Metrics features information we’ve gathered in our nearly 12 months now of watching the iTunes App Store. This includes information such as the number of apps, category counts, pricing break downs, application approval delay tracking, and more. Take a look at the page and leave your feedback. We’ll be updating this information daily and expanding it with the metrics you’d like to see us track.

Welcome to your new .biz. I think this will be interesting!
